Since early 2019, Jay and his wife, Lorraine, have built their business, JayLor Custom Furniture, creating custom furniture and some cabinetry. Jay’s passion for woodworking began early in life while growing up on a farm and helping with his family’s sideline business crafting furniture parts for Norwalk Furniture. Those experiences sparked a lifelong interest in the trade. Before marriage and starting his own business, he spent many hours in his father’s shop building small furniture pieces and wood projects. At age 17, he joined a construction crew, gaining more than 15 years of experience building pole buildings and homes.

In 2025, their business transitioned into an LLC with a new name, Dutchwood Designs, to better reflect the work they provide. Still family-owned, Dutchwood Designs has expanded its offerings and now specializes in custom cabinetry, including bathroom vanities, full kitchens, office suites, interior trim, and door packages. They continue to produce select custom furniture pieces and also partners with local Amish shops for additional production.

Dutchwood Designs is committed to crafting high-quality wood products using solid wood materials, premium components, and durable finishes with unlimited paint and stain options. All cabinetry includes standard solid dovetailed drawer boxes with undermount soft-close slides and hinges. With more than 50 door styles, from modern slim shakers to traditional detailed designs, they offer solutions for a range of tastes and needs. Whether clients require a lazy Susan, pull-out trash can, or drawer organizer, the company ensures thoughtful craftsmanship built to last for generations. Design support is also available through 3D and CAD drawings, or they can build directly from a client’s designer plans.
